big idea ideas

1) A series of landscape drawings of 5 different envirnments, each with a different arcitectural style, terrain and color scheme. The goal is to create a unique fantasy world by blending diffent existing cultures.
-one is russian style mosque, based loosly off st. basil's cathedral. it's in a artic tundra. the houses are a mix of ancient japanese temples and a mushroom shaped roof to continue the castle's rounded dome. The whole picture will be heavy on cool colors, ecspecially blue.
-two is a gothic cathedral, while incorporating the ancient japanese style arches. I hope that the various arches from the gothic and japanese arcitecture will look intresting. I'm placing complimentary colors near each other. That will draw the color out in the whole picture and make the image vibrant.
-three is a broken down fort in the middle of the forest. the idea is based of a stump i tried to burn out while clearing brush at home. i burned the cocore of stump out, which left the sides jutting upward. I played with that and turned it into a castle. The color scheme will be black, greens, and dull browns and greys.
-four is a desert oasis surrounding a major river, alot like Egypt and the Nile. The city will be a thriving utopia, with townhouses, agoras, a coliseum, and greek style temples with marble columns. also the people there will use the river heavily for trade. as such there will be heavy traffic at the banks, a bridge crossing it, and little boats used for travel (like in venice) and trade. the color scheme will be warm, to try to convey the extreme heat of the area. but the river will be a line of cool colors flowing right through the middle of an otherwise warm image, to represent how v

ital the river is to the societies survival.
-five is a typical fairy tale, disney castle with a gold color scheme. I want to mix fairy tale western europe with Jeruselum and the Temple of Solomon. the streets will be made of gold, the fields will be wheat fields (yellow fields). I will try to refrain from using other strong colors, as i want the overall scheme to be of gold and brilliance. white is an option, as well as heavily saturated colors.

2)my second idea is just an extention of my first. In order to make it more that just a series of pencil drawings, i'd draw a detailed map of he world i'm creating. I would detail the terrain: mountain ranges, islands, valleys, deserts, forests, rivers, lakes, seas, marshes, ect. Draw the boundaries between the various nations. Then i would take a thumbtack and place them in the locations that each of the scenes i drew are located. Then i'd attach a colored string to the thumbtacks and string it over to the image, creating a straight line. I would then have a short description of the nations, their economic systems, ideals, culture, natural resources, history, governmental system, ect.

3) A drawing of a fantasy tribal warrior in the forest. the warrior would be inspired by celtic clans, mongols, american indians, tarzan and cavemen. his armor would be light and bronze, with wolf inspired etchings. his weapons would be crude. He would wear a helm with a slit for a mohawk to stick out of, playing off the greek horsehair helms. he would wear blue face paint, and on his bare skin would be ceremonial tattoos. he would be crouching in the brush, like an animal. The warrior would be acompanied by an armored wolf. the man and the wolf would be stalking a monsterous bear, like the cave bears of the ice age, roughly 10 feet tall.

4) A drawing of a fairy tale princess. my goal would be to blend realism with fariy tale. by having a realistic depiction of female beauty in away that makes her no less beautiful. our culture puts pressure on women to look a certain way, to achieve an unachievable ideal. but i believe there is something beautiful in all women, and that should be celebrated rather than making them feel like they should look beautiful the same way other girls are. also in fairy tales ususally things are typically impractical: made to look good but wouldn't really function. details are usually ignored. I'd have fun expanding on it and making a image that was basically my own style of romanticized reality.

5)A king knighting a man. the man would be naked, with only a white clothe wrapped around him. the man would be on his knees in front of the king, looking afraid. the king would have a sympathetic look on his face. they would be under a living tree: that is a tree with a face. i would try to hide it enough so you couldn't see it at first but was unmistakable after you did. in the distance would be a gigantic castle. this would represent man being laid bare infront of God, our King, would gracefully accepts us and provides for us as we are. The tree represents passages from the bible detailing salvation and God's plan for us to be reconciled to Him as a tree of life, or a living tree in this case. and the castle in the background wold represent Jesus' reminders of the 'Kingdom being near', and how we are saved by God for a purpose and that our eventual destination is the Kingdom of Heaven

6)A black knight brutalizing much smaller men. The color scheme would be dark and dreary; blacks, dark greys, blues and violets. The cool colors represent the knight's unfeeling, calous character. I would want to imply a slow moving juggernaut, would methodically destroys his enemies unfeelingly. to do this the knight would have fantasticaly, impossibly massive armor, and a stern but calm face. furthermore, he would be picking up a young man by his hair or clothing nonchelantly, not even looking directly at him. a flash of red smoke would be in the pick to convey the violence of his actions. my intrest in this is to convey the idea of the progression of hate and anger. at first you want to hurt someone out of some wrongly placed sense of right and wrong, out of revenge or ect. but over time that anger turns to hate, and you don't even need justification or personal beefs anymore. thats the kind of feeling i want to convey, even though i'm sure the whole message won't come through.

7)A knight questing to slay a dragon. the knight would horseback, and be on a hill in a tundra setting. The dragon would be in a destroyed, deserted city. The whole image would be in cool colors, except where the black dragon is. the dragon would be sitting in its flames. because the area is make of snow and ice, the area is a glacier with a hold melted through it. this represents the dragon's destructive nature, as just it's presence destroyes even the land around it. the feeling should be one of foreboding, as the knight's hellish battle lies before him and he nobly rides toward the destruction.

identity essentials

my photo series is on conflict. i tried to use tension in my arm and hands in an expressive manner to convey pain, anger or violence. also i used my hands to choke my little brother, obviously physical conflict.
